Exclusive Pre-Season Interview with Drom-Inch Hard-Man Andy Bourke

As Championship time approaches I was asked to again visit the home of the great white hope of Drom Junior As. It was a freezing night as I made the long journey to the Ragg to speak to Andy Burke, the legendary Drom midfielder of last year. It was he, it is said, that ‘UPSET’ Rody Lowry in the Mid-Semi final of 2002. As the players make their way from the field it is easy to pick out the robust stride of Andy.

Me: Andy thanks for taking the time to speak to us.

Andy: No problem, just keep it short, right.

Me: Now first of all should I refer to you as Andy or as your more widely known “Dirty F***er Andy” ?

Andy:Andy’ll do.

Me: Andy, hard luck on yer loss in the Mid-semi final last year, even in loss ye won many admirers through out the year.

Andy: Thanks, yeah twas great stuff, sum session after it.

Me: Im sure there was. Your exploits on the field have given you a bit of a hardman image, I was speaking to the Gearoid Byrne of Clonakenny recently and he hadnt many nice things to say about you regarding a match played last tear between Drom and the Clonakenny .Any comment.

Andy: Theres no bad feeling between them boys and me even though dat day it did get a bit hot inside in the net between them and myself. We shook hands after the game. Theyre useless c*nts though.

Me : Andy many people questioned your use of the timber in the Semi final last year ,especially on Paddy Holland.

Andy: I dont really want to comment on the whole matter, I didnt break any rules of the game, I didnt get booked, I did nothing wrong, Holland walked off the field, he wasnt seriously hurt, Its a mans game. Anyway it was the Rock that was beaten hurls off him not me.

Me: Andy, What do you think of the Droms chances of winning the Junior this year.

Andy: Ah , jezuz tis goena b tough, but Broderick will have us firen on all cylinders for the game. We’ll be wiren inta a few of their fella’s from the word go ,cud b a bita bushten goen on .

Me : Andy, theres excellent teams there this year to mane a few, Holycross, Fennelys, Loughmore. These are all great teams and will be a stern test for your boys this year.

Andy:Yea , as you said theres great teams out there, like,i’m agreeing wit wat your saying like ,Theyve some unbelievable talen in there alrite, They’ve got better players than us,no doubt about that, but we’re not too bad. They’re the bookie second favouaites to win it out , after Sean Treceys , but at the end a the day , its go to come down to the team with the bottle for the big occasion. If we can pull it of twill be some session in The Pond, Meself and Scoots will be on the beer for the days solid .

Me:It should be hot on the sideline too , with Broderick back after his lengthy sidline ban.

Andy: Yea ,id say it cud be hotter on the sideline than on the pitch this year. Dats not sayen i wont be maken it hot for their boys inside the white lines too!!!!!.

Me: Andy, thanks again for your time, I wish you the best of look in the Championship and maybe we might talk again later in the competition.

Andy: No problem, Hopefully we will talk again.
