Feile na nGael 2011
What a busy weekend for our under 14 team. They travelled to Galway on Friday night in torrential weather and played their host team Castlegar. Unfortunately things didn’t go our way that night and lost on a score line of 4-5 to 2-5.
That didn’t deter our lads however and put up a tremendous performance against Turloughmore on Saturday morning in Turloughmore. The score for that match was 2-8 to 2-2 but does not reflect the actual performance of the game with Turloughmore only scoring their 2 goals one after the other with a minute to go. Drom were still in with a shot of qualifying for the semi final. However, it all depended on the outcome of Castlegar and Turloughmore. Due to Castlegar winning that game it put us out of the running. The boys still had one more game against Taghmon Camross. The Wexford team needed to win in order to go to playoff against Castlegar to decide who was to qualify. In the first half, Taghmon had run a tally of 1-7 to 2 points with a storm on their backs. In the second half, while Drom had the hurlers, Taghmon were physically bigger and stronger and even though we held Taghmon from scoring our lads found it difficult to get scores past their 6 foot defence and as a result Taghmon came out on top with a score of 1-7 to 5 points. The boys walked off the pitch with their heads held high to a round of applause from the crowds that had travelled up to support as well as those from the other clubs. Outsiders were astounded by the talent of our boys and the club is very proud of them. They were a credit to the club, their parents and to Tipperary. Well done boys. The Juvenile Club would also like to thank all those who supported both financially and also who travelled up to Galway. It meant a lot to the lads as well as the mentors and officers of the club. Thanks again.
Taghmon went on to beat Castlegar in the playoff. They were then beaten well by eventual winners O’Loughlin Gaels in the semi final. The club would like to thank Castlegar for hosting us as they were not found wanting in any aspect and ensured that we enjoyed our stay for the weekend.
No rest for the wicked however, as the 14s begin their Hurling Championship campaign on Thursday 30th June against Boherlahan in Boherlahan at 7:30 pm.
