Drom-Inch 2-11 Holycross Ballycahill 0-12

Drom-Inch recorded their second successive victory in the county league campaign in the Ragg on Sunday morning last in sultry spring-like conditions. The hosts started the brightest as it took them 15 seconds to record the first of 2 goals following a neat passing movement between Micheal Butler and David Collins who soloed along end line before passing to Pat Lupton who finished to the net with an overhead flick. Drom Inch kept the high tempo up when a short puck out by Shane Hassett in the host’s goal to James Woodlock set up Micheal Butler to point. Holycross had scores from Aidan Stakelum and a free from Liam Dwan either side of a long range free by Johnny Ryan from his own 65 yard line. The turning point in the match came when following a ruck; referee Michael Hassett dismissed both James Woodlock and Jacko Doyle following a melee. Woodlock receiving a second yellow following an earlier one for dissent while Doyle received a straight red for an off the ball incident. This changed the game as the play became much looser and both teams operated with a loose man in defence. David Butler scored a well worked point before Holycross replied with points from Dwan and Aidan Stakelum to leave the deficit at 2 points. This was short lived as a long range clearance by Paul Stapleton was fielded superbly over his marker by David Butler and buried to the net. However the visitors were to finish the half the stronger of the 2 teams by outscoring their opponents by three points to one with the scores coming from Donncha Duggan, Aidan and Robbie Stakelum while David Butler scored a free after been fouled. This left the game finely balanced with one puck of a ball between them.
