Drom-Inch recorded their third successive victory in this year’s county league by defeating Toomevara in Toomevara on Sunday morning last. Both teams were short their respective county stars whilst Drom-Inch also had to line out without their under 21 players who were playing later in the day. Ken Dunne opened the scoring for Toome’ running onto a mis-hit shot from a Drom player after 2 minutes. Drom responded with 4 unanswered points coming from Seamus Butler (2), Johnny Ryan and Joe Lupton to lead by 3 points after 10 minutes. Bob Duff replied for Toomevara with two points after good work from the Toomevara forwards forced errors from Drom backs. The next four scores came from placed balls with Ken Dunne registering a free and a 65 while for Drom Johnny Ryan converted a 65 to add to Seamus Butler’s free after Ryan had been fouled. Toomevara finished the half the stronger team by outscoring their opponent’s 3 points to 2 within the last 5 minutes of the half. Seamus Butler and Johnny Ryan both scoring a point apiece for the visitors.

The second half begin in similar fashion to the first one with Toomevara quickest out of the traps when No 23 scored after the Drom –Inch backs failed to deal with the danger. Seamus Butler and Ken Dunne swapped points in the third minute of the half. Paddy Kennedy caught a great puck out and fired over the bar in the 4th minute. This was to be the last time that the sides were level as Drom-Inch kicked on from here. Johnny Ryan and Ken Dunne traded frees before Seamus Butler added 2 further points after good work from Macdara Butler. Johnny Ryan added another point before Bob Duff replied for the home side. Ryan who was now on top at midfield split the post for two more points, one coming from a 65. This now put Drom-Inch up 4 points with ten minutes remaining in the second half. Toomevara were trying to bridge the gap but were struggling to overcome a resilient Drom-Inch defence. Two further points from Johnny Ryan and a late point from Paddy Kennedy extended the lead to 5 points again. A penalty in the last minute of added time was saved and cleared by the Drom rear guard ensured that the men from the Mid would leave with the spoils

Drom had some very good performances on the day from all areas of the pitch. Their backs were mean and resolute and conceded very little from open play while Johnny Ryan at midfield was the key man of everything that was good about them. Up front Seamus Butler was in great form and scored some impressive scores.
